This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
I am a Teach For America teacher in North Carolina. I teach Civics and Economics to tenth grade students, a state tested course and graduation requirement. All students that want to graduate high school, nonetheless continue to college, must do well in this course.
My students need to be engaged and excited about the material in order to learn. I have found that students do well when they are able to be creative and use art supplies throughout the class. I have been supplying notebooks, markers, glue sticks, glitter, etc. for students to use every day. However, it has gotten to be too expensive for me to continue for my second semester students.
I need help supplying the materials for these notebooks. The students really enjoy being able to use the art supplies and are outscoring all other classes. I need notebooks, markers, highlighters, glue sticks, pens, and scissors.
All my students need is a little extra help in order to stay on the right path for graduation. These supplies will help my students get excited about the class and therefore be able to perform well on the state exam.
