My Students
"Si se puede" is the slogan we have in my transitional bilingual classroom in Trenton, New Jersey. By providing opportunities for students of diverse cultural and economic backgrounds, these curious learners can believe that their goals are possible to achieve.
All my students have immigrated to the United States to access both the economic and educational advantages that exist here.
Their limited English proficiency is not limiting their desire to learn. They are eager to learn the required curriculum as they are developing skills in the English language.
These students have been in the country for no more than three years, and most have been here for less than a year. It is important that they participate in engaging and authentic activities to acquire their new language with confidence. As their teacher, I strive to provide them with an educational environment that fosters this growth!
My Project
Math is a cyclical subject. The mathematician does not have to relearn a concept. However, learned concepts reintroduce themselves when learning new concepts. This helps all mathematicians understand and solve new learning or assist in verifying responses.
Interactive Math Notebooks are journals detailing the students understanding of math and they support the evolution of these mathematicians into proficient, confident problem solvers.
Composition books, scissors, rulers and glue are required materials that will be needed to get our notebooks started. Notebooks are resources that students will keep in their academic library to be used as they advance in their education through college.
