This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach students who range in age from 15 to 19. They are a group of individuals with a variety of social, economical, and emotional needs. It is my belief that they have a tremendous ability to learn, they just need a variety of ways to accomplish that. A few years ago, I introduced interactive notebooks and manipulatives as well as guided notes to my students. The students loved the ability to get hands on with math. The bright colors and easy to follow format of notes meant the students were retaining more. It is my intent with the help of this project to continue interactive notebooks and take it to an even better format.
My Project
I have found over the years using bright colors and interactive manipulatives that the students help create, they retain more and are willing to participate more. Math can be difficult, so having the bright colors of the Astro Bright paper and colored pens to create interactive notes to study is very helpful. I will also be using the laminating sheets to create graph paper/ manipulatives for their notebook which they can use the dry erase markers to create graphs over and over again. The dry erase boards will allow them to work out answers in groups without wasting too much paper.
