Because of your philanthropy, students have had the opportunity to take the books home and continue their reading beyond the classroom. Increasing the time spent reading texts and decreasing screen usage is vital towards elevating the literacy rates of youngsters. This is just one of the ways that your charitable giving has helped my English class. \r\n\r\nAnother way that this donation of Octavia Butler's \"Kindred\" has enhanced the classroom experience is it has afforded me the opportunity to teach topics such as the meaning of hierarchy as it relates to the power structure during the time of slavery in America. Furthermore, pupils were able to make connections to the present day as they discussed whether or not they believe a system of hierarchy still exists in our current society. Additionally, youngsters were given time in class to read specific chapters and delve into higher order thinking questions about the text. They were also able to make predictions about how the character Rufus would be influenced by his society. \r\n\r\nI have found that several of my students are excelling and have surpassed their peers in the number of chapters they have read. I have also seen students showing their ability to look back and see how crucial details from the beginning of the novel are affecting what takes place later on the text. This has been seen in the hands-on-activities I create for pupils based on the novel. They have been expected to put events in chronological order and determine which chapters these moments occurred. Even youngsters who struggled with the literature have been able to excel because of access to the book at home. \r\n\r\nOverall, myself and my students are beyond appreciative for your care and truly thank you for granting us class sets of Kindred, which have been used for pupils to enjoy in class and at home.","fullyFundedDate":1776180094415,"projectUrl":"project/delving-deep-with-octavia-butler/9964135/","projectTitle":"Delving Deep With Octavia Butler","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Prout","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp105752_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y115&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1765997882228","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/105752"},{"teacherId":7021676,"projectId":9924694,"letterContent":"I want to apologize, but I cannot have my students likeness posted due to various restrictions.
