It's really important that our students are well rounded in the arts. Students trained in acting become comfortable with public speaking. Students proficient in the technical side of theatre become critical thinkers with the ability to solve complicated problems. Our students will benefit from having the correct materials and an ample amount of them to create and make their own designs, whether it's lighting, costuming, or set design.
Every child has a creative spirit inside them, so please help me provide them with the needed resources to let that spirit fly!
Every semester I have two beginning theatre arts classes and a mixed intermediate through advanced class, in each class, I teach a lesson on costume design from theory to a hands-on practical project. Next semester I am planning on having my students read a popular Disney play and then designing their own costume accessory based on a character from the script.
The students enjoy this unit so much! We spend a week reading the script, listening to music from the show, looking at videos and photos from professional versions. Then students are tasked with designing their own piece of clothing or mask based on a character from our chosen show.
I am requesting a variety of masks, fabrics, sewing tools & supplies along with other arts and crafting materials; such as beading, buttons, yarn, ribbon, and leather. Please help me give my students the gift of creativity! Thank you for your consideration.
