Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

I teach special education preschool itinerantly and travel to different classrooms to work with children in daycares and schools. Some of my students are not exposed to books and/or story time at home so I would use these books during story time to teach my students how to appreciate books and interact during reading experiences. I am requesting a variety of interactive books to make reading fun and to increase understanding by using different senses. A lot of the books are hands-on and have buttons, picture flaps, sensory pages to feel or make noise.

Reading to young children supports their "brain development" and promotes thinking.

It also helps children develop language, builds their vocabulary, imagination, and social emotional skills. The books I've requested have simple language and are developmentally appropriate for students with delays in receptive and expressive language.
