Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach a diverse and incredible class of general education students, special education students, and English Language Learners. My children in East Boston come from loving families; many of them are low income.
My classroom includes children with Down Syndrome, children whose families are experiencing poverty, children with limited english proficiency, and children from a wide range of backgrounds.
Having the opportunity to attend a high quality early education program enables these children to explore new ideas and develop life-long habits for learning.
My Project
The use of an interactive display will be transformative. My students have a wide range of needs. Despite working long hours and investing much of my own money into the classroom, I'm not able to meet all the needs of my students with the current resources. This interactive display will be used to display read aloud books in a large format, a language center to promote oral language acquisition, a literacy center, and a science center.
Imagine a classroom where children gather around an interactive display - touching and sorting photos of different types of emotions while hearing the word for each emotion.
One student touches touches a photograph and a video begins to play. It features a short clip of two students arguing in the block center about taking turns. The students begin talking about the video clip, problem solving the conflict while developing their language skills.
