Having the right tools will allow students to fully immerse themselves in this process rather than simply reading a story once and moving on.\r\n\r\nThe headphones and listening station will give our students opportunities to independently listen to and rehearse stories, while the sketchbooks and crayons will let them respond to stories through drawing, sequencing, character illustrations, and their own creative ideas. The literature organizer will help us keep our growing collection of books accessible and organized, and will also give students a way to take stories and materials home to practice and share with their families. We've used the counter chips to count the letters and sounds in our names, practice counting and composing sums up to 10, and build collections up to 20. The connecting cubes have been especially popular for building and counting collections to 20 - with a few play towers and \"swords\" making their way into our learning, too!\r\n\r\nWe are also beginning our first STEM unit on weather and seasons, and the thermometer will give students a hands-on way to observe, measure, and record temperature as we learn about changes in the world around us. The foam color tiles, centimeter cubes, ten frames, counters, dice, and magnetic tiles will give students even more opportunities to build, sort, compare, count, measure, recognize patterns, and solve problems through hands-on exploration. They absolutely LOVE every single thing I ordered (and so do I!).\r\nThe puzzles and color mazes have been really helpful for the younger students and the books are a big hit. Some teachers have actually been in tears, looking at the portraits because the special details make each one really look like the artist who created it.\r\nThe families (some of whom were donors to this project!) have been so moved by their child's portraits. They mention how the hair makes the creation look so realistic and the wide range of beautiful skin colors. \r\nI have been working round the clock to mount the portraits to heavy black cardstock so they can be displayed at our Winter Showcase in a few weeks. \r\nThis is the largest project I have ever supported with students and your generous donations made ALL the difference. The alternative chairs have been helpful for students who like to move and still are able to focus on their work. \r\n\r\nThe sensory strips have been great to help students calm down, especially when they're doing work or taking tests that give them a little bit of anxiety (even in kindergarten). They're able to touch something that gives sensory input and also a calming motion of the infinity sign. \r\n\r\nThe straps on the chairs also help students who might have to move their body or make sound in order to focus and it's a safe way for them to use their chairs to help them stay active while still moving their bodies.
