My Students

My students are creative, inquisitive and love to learn! They enjoy hands-on activities and engaging projects. As a class we are exploring computer science skills and are working together to come up with creative ways to enhance our learning. The goal of the class is to introduce students computer science and help them explore computer science concepts that they can dive deeper into throughout their high school years.

My students embrace challenges and work together to find solutions.

Every student in my classroom loves to learn new things but have a vast range of ways of learning. We incorporate a lot of different learning strategies to try to ensure that every students needs are met. They are an amazing group of students and make every day worth it!

My Project

I am creating hands on activities for students to make real-life connections with computer science concepts. One activity we will do is to put sand in film canisters and measuring them to apply different sorting algorithms such as: bubble sort, quick sort, selection sort, insert sort, etc. Another activity we were going to do is have them create their name in binary by creating a necklace or bracelet. The last activity I was going to have them do was use algorithms to create pixelated images on a bead board to represent how computers translate images to binary to display on a screen. Students struggle with learning these concepts in a direct instructional setting. Creating real-world interactions allows students to create a deeper connection to these concepts.
