I'm hoping to inspire my students with technology and connect it to mathematics. We'll take on blogging, Twitter, video editing, 3D printing, Skype, and much, much more! My fourth-grade students come from a variety of backgrounds. Fifty percent of my students live in high-poverty areas, and about 15% of them are English Language Learners from South Africa, Vietnam, Nigeria, Bhutan, and other countries.
Our school is a K-5 Vermont school that loves embracing STEM activities.
We put tools into the hands of students to keep them energized. My students are an energetic and inspired group of learners who love utilizing technology.
My Project
This projector will allow me to create lessons that will be the basis of my math lessons for the remainder of the year. Teachers have 40 minutes at school each day to plan 7-8 lessons. That time can be spent creating resources, understanding content, or differentiating content. I know with these lessons the major portion of creating interactivity has already been done. This allows me to have the time to modify the content of the lessons to better match what the learners in my classroom need. The lessons allow students to move hundreds of boards on the screen, it also allows students to learn more content. When lessons are pre-written in this style students don't need to wait for their teacher to write up the word problem, or draw the model. Instead, examples are readily available to view and it helps students access more content.
Students struggle with common core math.
The lessons can cover a large amount of material very quickly. Having interactive lessons pre-written allows me to teach more content and help my students become better students. I can also print my notes for students in case they aren't able to stay with the pace of the class and need to review an example. More engaged learners will allow more students to have a higher rate of success in the classroom due to the interactivity of the lessons.
