Interact With the World Around You

My students need an ActivBoard Touch interactive whiteboard in order to better interact with the curriculum through the use of advanced technology in order to better prepare them for their future.

My Students

For my high school students, most of them will be the first in their families to graduate and have the opportunity to continue their education at a higher level. Coming from neighborhoods of poverty, crime, and violence, they are heroes in my eyes. Growing up in Oakland isn't easy for them yet they show up to school every day, ready to learn and push themselves forward.

My classroom is a diverse mix of every cultural identity that makes Oakland the great city that we live in.

On a daily basis my students teach me just as much as I teach them. They are the force behind our school. They are the leaders, the mentors, the fighters, and the motivators.

My Project

Each day my students enter my classroom prepared and eager to learn new material that will better prepare them for the world outside of my classroom. As high school seniors they know how close they are to their future and they want to be ready. Sadly, our school can't afford the technology that will best prepare them.

Today's world is infused with technological demands.

I want my students to be ready and on a level playing field. Through the technology and curriculum I would be able to implement with this interactive whiteboard students would be able to to feel as though they are masters of their own learning. I don't want to create a classroom where the teacher is the knowledge giver. I want students to feel empowered. I want them to know that they are capable of setting higher expectations for their own learning.

I want them to learn from each other. With this interactive whiteboard students would be able to engage with the curriculum, with each other, and with me. I know that it will transform their understanding of the curriculum as well as pave the way for them to navigate the technological advances that are happening in our society today.

This board could have a huge benefit on student engagement. Currently, we have a barely functioning projector in our room that makes it difficult to see the content that is being displayed. With an interactive board students would be able to engage in the curriculum hands on. They could connect to it through other computers in the classroom so that the Internet is right at their fingertips. Not only this, but they would be able to take their learning to a new level. It is imperative that students familiarize themselves with the up and coming technology.
