My Students

Our students live in a small rural town in Salem, UT and many of them come from agricultural families. Our class sizes are large and growing due to the new homes being built on old farm land. This is bringing a diversity to our school of new students and families, versus the established students and families.

The students have many diverse interests, talents, and abilities.

The community is working to bridge the new with the old respectfully and the students are a part of this dynamic situation. We are located an hour south of the larger metropolitan area.

If our students dream enough, they can become what they set their mind to. Having a positive mind set, being a community leader, perseverance, empathy, gratitude, and mindfulness will develop them into the leaders of the future.

My Project

Did you experience the American Revolution? Civil War? Westward Expansion... probably not. My students will be given the opportunity to experience history like they were there.

We learn from history and that shapes our future.

What better way to teach students how they can shape our nation. History is alive and can still be experienced.

Role-playing different characters in order to learn about Union and Confederate life in camp and on the homefront, students reenact battles, portray notable figures, carry dispatches, act as spies, work in hospitals, take pictures, operate telegraphs, and more.

Outrageous tales about famous figures during the American Revolution will help students remember this exciting period in history.

Working in teams, students retrace Lewis and Clark's route on a map as they "earn miles" by learning facts about the expedition and practicing cross-curricular skills.

What better way to learn about how our country was shaped.
