Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Travel back in time to the American Revolution through the book George Washington's Sock. The students will learn about the war firsthand and learn how our freedom was developed. General Washington will take them on an adventure that they will not soon forget.
Every year our students have been victims to our state's budget cuts.
We, as teachers, are faced with the challenge to continue to find ways to motive our students, and raise test scores. It is important that students are given the materials needed to be successful.
My fifth grade students live in the Central Valley in California. Our students have not been able to receive new class sets of novels since the decrease in our school budget. Our school has a vary diverse population made up of students from divorce families, homeless, English learners, and students with special needs. In addition to over 50% of our population being classified as social economic disadvantaged.
My Project
What better way to understand the American Revolutionary War than through a fictional novel. The novel is motivational and will inspire students to want to continue to pick up books on the American Revolution, and continue learning how our nation was form. In addition, they will learn to write their own fact-based stories about an adventure back in time.
This interactive novel study is designed to have the students make decisions regarding dilemmas. It integrates reading, writing, and social studies. Included in the novel study unit are vocabulary worksheets, comprehension questions, and a variety of activities.
The novel George Washington's Socks will allow students to ask questions and carry on discussions about the Revolutionary period.
It will help them form their own opinions about events unfolding in the book, make predictions, and write essays - in short with a novel study we cover many Core Curriculum standards. Please help my students read a novel instead of our Houghton Mifflin short stories which is the only reading materials given to us by our district.
