This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am lucky to teach art to every student in the building which adds up to more than 500 students in a high-poverty public school. This includes first through fifth-grade classes, including bilingual classes and self-contained special needs. We are 85% low income, resulting in all of our students receiving free breakfast and lunch daily. Our school is located in a predominantly Spanish-speaking community with 50% of students being English Language Learners and 80% of students speaking Spanish at home.

My Project

My students are looking to receive drawing pencils, yarn, and watercolor paints. As we near the end of the school year, many of our art supplies are starting to run out. I am looking to refill some of the current supplies I have for the following school year that may not fit into my budget. Right now the items I am requesting are either completely gone or will be before the year ends.

I hope to teach my students how to do perspective drawing, watercolor blending, and weaving.

These materials will reach all 550 of my students at each grade level. Having drawing pencils, yarn, and watercolor paints will expand their knowledge of various art mediums and inspire new works of art and creativity!
