Inspiring Resilience: Bringing a Life-Changing Book to Our Class

Help me give my students a class set of All Thirteen: The Incredible Cave Rescue of the Thai Boys' Soccer Team, which will help them build nonfiction reading skills and connect their learning to real-world experiences.

My Project

What I love most about my students is their curiosity and their willingness to grow. They come into the classroom with different experiences, strengths, and challenges, but they all have the ability to think deeply and connect to powerful stories. I see their confidence build when they feel successful, especially when they engage with texts that are both accessible and meaningful. They deserve opportunities to see themselves as capable readers and thinkers.

A class set of All Thirteen: The Incredible Cave Rescue of the Thai Boys' Soccer Team will help make that happen.

This book isn’t just engaging; it’s a true story that naturally draws students in with its suspense, teamwork, and resilience.

Academically, it provides the perfect foundation for teaching nonfiction text structures and features in an authentic way. This resource also opens the door to using real-world resources alongside the book. Students will be able to read and analyze newspaper articles, watch news clips, and compare firsthand reporting of the rescue to how it is presented in the text. This helps them build essential skills in evaluating sources and making connections across multiple forms of nonfiction. Better yet, the story itself offers powerful life lessons. As students read, they will see examples of perseverance, collaboration, and hope in the face of overwhelming challenges. These are qualities my students are still developing, and this book gives us a shared experience to discuss and reflect on them.

Having a class set ensures every student has equal access to this experience. It allows us to read together, discuss, and truly dive into the text as a learning community. With the right book in their hands, I know my students won’t just become better nonfiction readers, they’ll become more confident, thoughtful, and inspired individuals.
