This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The special needs students I work with range from Preschool to 5th Grade and have met eligibility requirements under articulation, expressive/receptive language, pragmatics, and/or fluency. Our school is located in a rural area with a population of students eager to learn. Students Individualized Education Plan goals and/or objectives are addressed through a of variety of learning styles, hands-on materials, and cross curricular resources. Speech and/or Language therapy assists students with establishing a solid foundational base for effectively communicating in the world in which we live.

My Project

Inspiring children to be creative through real-world engaging activities can be accomplished through play-based therapy. These materials will enhance my current "Kitchen" themed play-based therapy center (which was also funded through the Donors Choose program). Students engage in unlimited fun filled and stimulating language activities such as; following directions, designing self-creations, vocabulary, positional words, understanding quantity and qualitative concepts, describing/attributes, colors/shapes, sorting (healthy and unhealthy foods), phonological awareness, literacy, writing, etc. Limitless receptive and expressive language skills are being addressed throughout fun filled therapy sessions. Students are eager to attend therapy and participate in activities that are real-world based and occur within a structure language-rich environment! "Deep" learning occurs through participation in functional activities.
