6th graders are a fun, energetic, and varied group of students. They are sometimes bold, sometimes shy in their work. They are wavering between elementary and middle school and trying to find out about themselves.
While they all want to learn and do what's right, they have a lot on their minds sometimes and just need space.
Some days are a roller coaster of feelings about learning and producing work. But in the end, they are all valuable, capable, and worth my best teaching techniques.
My students will be given the opportunity to use a more comfortable seating option when they work individually or in a small group.
If they aren't focused on their comfort, they can focus on their work.
I will have them use the flex seating on an as needed basis during all subject area work times. And to ensure each student gets a chance to enjoy the comfort, I will also assign students to the flex seating when my professional judgement deems it necessary.
Students who are relaxed and comfortable will be able to let their minds work without distraction. Also, some students will appreciate the individual space they can be granted by using some flexible seating options.
