Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach Kindergarten at a Title 1 school. This is the first academic and learning experience for many students. Many students enter school without knowing letter names and sounds. My school population of about 20% non-English speaking families. All of my students receive free lunch as well as breakfast is served daily.
My students are excited and willing to work hard at school.
We spend many days learning our letter names and sounds. We also are learning how to be a student and the expectations of how we work and grow in a school environment.
My Project
Many students have not been able to experience hands-on and inquiry based learning experiences due to COVID-19 cleaning and sanitizing protocols. Small-group centers allow students to use higher lever critical thinking skills, cooperative work, and practice their language skills. This is incredibly important for the students that enter school from non-English speaking families.
Small-group centers help students develop skills in literacy, vocabulary, language, science inquiry, and math.
I would like to allow my students time to explore and learn cooperatively. These supplies will allow me to provide these cooperative learning opportunities.
