These cushions are already helping us create a more comfortable and flexible classroom where students can learn in different spaces instead of always sitting at their desks.\r\nWe are using the cushions during reading, partner work, small-group activities, and independent learning. They give students the opportunity to choose a comfortable place to read and work while still staying focused and engaged. Our next step is to continue incorporating them into our daily routines, especially during reading activities, collaborative learning, and our classroom projects.\r\nYour generosity has helped make our classroom feel more welcoming, engaging, and student-centered. The new materials have already made a transformational impact on our daily learning. Using the new ramps, our students dove headfirst into exploring fundamental concepts of force and motion through hands-on discovery. We set up an exciting engineering challenge where students had to move a ball from one side of the room to the other using only the ramps and gravity. Through trial and error, the children made wonderful scientific connections—discovering on their own that increasing the incline made the ball roll significantly faster down the track.\r\n\r\nBeyond building scientific and STEM inquiry skills, these materials provided a rich opportunity for social and emotional growth. Working in small groups required students to hone their communication and collaboration skills every step of the way. They practiced active listening as peers shared different perspectives, learned the value of taking turns, and demonstrated remarkable perseverance when initial designs didn't work. When they weren't building ramp systems, the students loved using the Magna-Tiles to test structural stability, eagerly experimenting to see just how tall they could build a tower before gravity caused it to collapse. By providing purposeful, hands-on experiences, we are creating opportunities for students to explore ideas, develop skills, and make meaningful connections across the curriculum. Play-based learning supports the whole child while allowing students to engage with academic content in an active and developmentally appropriate way.\r\n\r\nStudents showed immediate excitement and happiness when the new play-based materials were introduced. They were eager to explore, ask questions, and interact with the materials independently and collaboratively. Their enthusiasm demonstrated that engaging resources can encourage curiosity, motivation, and active participation in the learning process.\r\n\r\nOur current classroom theme focuses on farm animals. Students are using farm animal manipulatives to support their learning in mathematics, including counting, sorting, comparing quantities, and representing numbers. For example, students can use the animals as counters while solving problems and explaining their thinking. This approach makes mathematical concepts more concrete and meaningful because students are learning through direct experience.\r\n\r\nThese experiences also support important developmental outcomes. As students explore and manipulate the materials, they practice communication, cooperation, problem-solving, fine-motor skills, and mathematical reasoning. They are learning to make observations, test ideas, share materials, and describe their thinking. Because the activities are engaging and hands-on, students are more likely to remain focused and take ownership of their learning.\r\n\r\nLearning through play is contributing to a positive and supportive classroom culture. Students are becoming enthusiastic learners who are willing to explore, take appropriate risks, and learn from one another. The integration of play with academic goals demonstrates that play is not separate from learning; it is a meaningful pathway through which our students develop knowledge, skills, confidence, and a lasting love of learning.","fullyFundedDate":1777398593567,"projectUrl":"project/learning-through-play/10184977/","projectTitle":"Learning Through Play","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Parsons","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10383651_orig.jpg?crop=2400,2400,x0,y200&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1775661226687","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10383651"},{"teacherId":10487421,"projectId":10234793,"letterContent":"The students are analyzing multiple games and learning how to collect customer data and make it visible.
