Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
With a class of 31 students, differentiation becomes a crucial tool to make sure every student learns what I teach, at their own pace, and with the right support. One of the best tools to differentiate instruction, these days, is technology.
My students are clever, motivated fifth graders, who are always asking thoughtful questions, all the time!
They are always looking for new ideas and information. Our school is in a wonderful, supportive community. Our parents work hard to raise money to maintain our classroom, in the face of serious district budget cuts. However, there is little left for upgrading school technology. Our classroom has not been designed to hold technology or computers for all the students, and that's when a tool like an iPad Pro can be very powerful.
My Project
My project is based on the 21st Century Skills that I always have to use while teaching my lessons. Research shows that there are a lot of benefits to having an iPad Pro in a classroom. First, there are many educational applications that are designed especially for the iPad Pro; just about every subject, learning style, and grade level will be covered in one small tool.
Then, an iPad Pro improves literacy by using the simplest features, such as voice recorder.
This can help to improve the fluency of any student. Finally, it is a portable moviemaker. That means an iPad Pro is a device that brings video into the education environment, which leads to creative interaction and creativity on another level. We are working on exhibition projects and some kids, like the one investigating about fast food, would like to create a movie where they interview some citizens.
An iPad Pro in my classroom would allow me to apply reading strategies, enrich vocabulary, and provide access to a variety of media to reinforce learning.
Additionally, I do need an iPad Pro case to protect this teaching tool while being used in the classroom. Since students will be using the device around the class, I need to make sure the iPad Pro is always safe.
All students deserve the opportunity to interact with technology as a learning tool at school!
