Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Children by nature are very curious about the world around them. My students are no exception. Everyday I am asked questions that require some research. Some questions are as basic as, what does a bison look like? To how many stars are there in the universe?

Our school has been the victim of budget cuts.

All the students at our school qualify for free federal school meals. We have a very limited number of computers and those that we do have often don't work. We have not purchased any educational software since 1995. My students are very inquisitive. They're always willing and wanting to learn about new things. Their many questions could be easily answered if we had more resources in our classroom. Fortunately, our school has wi-fi and we would be able to access it and learn about the world in which we live in. This is why I am asking for a laptop computer. A laptop would allow me to take my students to places that they've never been to and teach them about our past. They could learn about science and how things work. They would learn several valuable skills, like typing and doing research on the web.

My Project

Many times I work with my students on a one-to-one basis or in a small group setting. For this project I would like to provide my students with a laptop computer. One of my goals as a self contained classroom teacher is to have my students become independent learners. I provide them with the tools (in this case a laptop computer) and teach them how to conduct research and technology based learning. A laptop computer would be an essential tool for my students to do research and complete assignments in an engaging and interactive way. They will learn about the many search engines and how to be responsible while surfing the web. I also teach my students keyboarding skills. Being able to type is an essential skill that they'll need the rest of their lives. I firmly believe that just as babies can learn to swim, students are never too young to learn to type.

By teaching my students typing skills and how to do research, I am teaching them life skills that will enhance their education in ways that they've never imagined.

Learning through a computer will inspire a deeper curiosity to the world around them and give them a better understanding of the usage of current technology.
