Our school is located in a small town. We are a Title I school and the majority of the population is living in poverty. During my time at my school, I have experienced a lot of generosity.
Although the community understands the importance of education, they often times are unable to purchase the required supplies.
I would love to be able to purchase supplies for inquiry based science lessons for my students.
Despite the financial shortcomings of our small community, my students are fighters and through their determination have grown by leaps and bounds each year.
My Project
Last year, the State of Mississippi finally updated their science standards. Although this was very exciting, I now do not have many of the supplies that are necessary to teach my students about the world around them.
Research shows that there is an alarming decrease in US based scientists due to the lack of inquiry based learning environments in k-12 schools.
These tools are very basic but would allow me to provide a hands-on lesson for each new standard. For example, when we read our Where Does Food Come From? weekly story we will be able to learn about the parts of the plant with our new root viewer, read about parts of a seed and plant in our new books, and grow our very own plant.
I am very happy to be able to share these supplies with the other teachers in my grade level. Your generous gift will be helping 6 teachers make science more fun for 135 students!
