My students are 21st century learners who are constantly seeking knowledge. They are growing up in a fast paced informational world. Most of their day is spent inside a classroom in a sedentary way. When they are given opportunities to move around and stimulate their brain, they get energized and excited about the things they still have to learn. My students are looking for ways to increase their activity level within the classroom setting. They asked for different chairs that would help them incorporate more movement throughout the day.
My Project
My students spend most of their learning day sitting in a traditional classroom chair. The chairs are uncomfortable when using for prolonged periods of time. The students fidget, bounce feet, tap pencils, and look for alternate ways to get some movement in during these sedentary activities. When we are able to add in movement it helps energize them and excites them about their own learning.
My students need flexible seating that will allow them to choose the perfect fit for their sitting needs.
The wobble stools will allow my students to rock and turn as needed during learning time. The Safeco ball chair will allow for a softer seating option that also has a little bounce if needed. The floor chairs provide more comfort for working in group on the ground, reading and working around the room, and make great seats for smaller tables. The different stools and chairs from this project will help give my students choices when it comes to comfort and learning.
