Innovative Minds Bring Their Creations to Life Through Digital Storytelling!
My students need an additional iPad, a digital pen, a stylus and screen protectors. This will double the size of our iPad station and give each student more time on the devices to create their educational digital storytelling projects.
I have the pleasure of supporting an innovative group of children in their efforts to utilize a growth mindset to become the best students they can be. My students are always searching for ways to demonstrate their knowledge as well as their kind and generous attitudes. They understand that mistakes are a part of learning, and they take pride in every step towards achieving their goals.
My students are inquisitive, collaborative and hardworking.
Together we set the bar high, but it is the students who formulate their own specific "recipes for success."
Each day, students courageously accept the challenge to achieve their personal best. Perseverance, courage and integrity are just a few of the moral focus virtues that we believe are integral in achieving their goals. The students are eager to experience success, and they are willing to utilize any and all resources that are available to them.
My Project
The possibilities for using digital storytelling in today's classrooms are endless! In my classroom, my second semester integration plan includes applying digital storytelling to three projects, during which students will have the opportunity to work collaboratively in pairs and groups, using the iPad we've requested.
This year my students will have the opportunity to use iPads to apply research, showcase their creativity, and experience new ways to communicate with others inside and out of the classroom.

During the first project, students will examine a skill that they are already familiar with and then explain two strategies that they used to solve a challenging math problem and plan a complex written response. Our second project will address challenging situations that the students experience in their everyday lives. Through digital storytelling, the students will show how implementing their moral focus values can help them handle difficult situations in a positive, reasonable way. They may choose to do things such as animate their story with puppets, create a public service announcement and bring an imaginative interview to life.
The culminating digital storytelling project will provide students with the opportunity to research a subject about which they are interested in learning more about. They will then write a report on this subject and enhance their report with a digital storytelling app of their choice. Students will learn how to use a variety of apps such as Comic Master and Telestory, and they will have the opportunity to rotate through the digital storytelling station during enrichment and writing workshops. To enhance the features of the apps, and to keep the iPad protected, we are also requesting an iPad cases, a stylus, and screen protectors. Time permitting, students will also choose one of their digital storytelling projects to highlight and share at a Storytelling Festival!
