Our school is looking to create an inviting outdoor space for students and staff. This space will allow classes to go outside to enjoy the fresh air while learning. Research has shown when you take learning outside the classroom, there are many benefits. Academic performance increases when children learn outdoors. Outdoor learning improves child development. It’s beneficial to kids’ health. Going outside is good for the brain. Outdoor activities give children unique practical experiences.
In addition, this area will have a dual purpose.
Students and staff will get to enjoy their lunch outdoors, in a safe and soothing environment. This helps provide a safe, refreshing area to rejuvenate, so they can be the best student/educator possible.
There are five main benefits to eating and socializing outdoors: breathing fresh air, to reduces stress, nature soothes you, it improves sleep quality, and to improve focus.
This project is for outdoor planters, potting soil, plastic weed barrier, chalk for chalk board, clipboards, and water proof containers to protect supplies.
The outdoor planters and potting soil will allow flowers and plants to be planted. This will add curb appeal to our outdoor classroom. We are planning on putting up an outdoor chalk board for our teachers and students to use. The chalk, clipboards, and water proof containers are to help keep our students and staff supplied and organized. Additionally, we are planning to install ground cover for easier mobility. The plastic weed barrier is the first step in this process.
Our school will be seeking out other grant opportunities to bring this project to fruition. There are 625 students and 115 staff members that will potentially benefit from this project.
