I was able to get Dash robots. These are robots that can be used in the lower elementary STEM classes. Students are able to program the robot to do all sorts of tasks and interact with them. One of our projects we did this year was turn our Dash into a paleontologist. Students in the 3rd grade are learning about fossils. We created grids for them to locate a dinosaur fossil. Students had to program their robot to drive from \"home base,\" locate the fossil, do a happy dance/sound, and then return to the home base. This taught them measuring skills, grid reading, and a little programming. This also teaches students problem solving skills and perseverance. When their robot doesn't make it to the goal, they must go back and make changes to run the program again. Many students these days struggle with not getting things perfect the first time. This gives them a way to practice this problem solving skill. \r\nI think the most exciting thing about these robots for the students is getting to see their work come to life right in front of them. The smiles, giggles, and excitement when their robot made it to the fossil was such a great thing to see and hear. They were coming back to class the next day talking about how they could make their robot work better and be more successful. The students were so excited to see the new books on the shelves. My second and third grade readers were so excited to get some easy chapter books like Kitty! The older kids were so excited to see the Sweet Valley Twins books on the shelves now! My junior high and high school section also go a few new books that had been requested.\r\nI am a K-12 Librarian and it brings me so much joy that I was able to get new books for elementary, junior high, and high school. This was made possible because of donors like you. Having the pictures with words really helps students that struggle with reading. Having access to graphic novels in our library has brought back an excitement to come visit the library. These are exciting for all ages!!
