My Students

The students of today and tomorrow will grow up surrounded by technology, which will require a change in the way we education them. This requires teachers to shift from chalk and talk, to a more visual, stimulating lesson, that will retain the attention of these student and help them to succeed.

The students I teach, live in an urban neighborhood, where they attend their zoned school.

These students come to school with a positive attitude toward learning and assisted us in achieving the nurturing family environment that exists at my school. My school recently had a change from one whole unit into eight smaller learning communities that meet the educational and social aspects of my students by requiring them to select a family (community) that would contains their specific interests. This changed the relationship amongst staff and students, and brought pride to teaching, where teachers want the best education possible.

My Project

By incorporating new technology into my mathematics class, I will be able to assist with the changing minds of my students. Today, Students spend the majority of their days using technology via cellphones, ipods, computers, that have led to a change in the way they need to be educated. Therefore by having the newest technology from Texas Instruments (Ti-Nspire handheld graphing calculator) I will be able to have students active in the lessons, learn how to create computer programs (algebra and geometry based) and a tool that visualizes exactly what the curriculum requires me to teach (example-speed of a baseball verses gravity).

Donating to my project will make a difference for my students by helping them be actively involved in the lessons, engaged in the material I will teach and produce a lasting understanding that will assist them with college preparedness.
