Our middle school is located in one of the oldest areas of our city. The west side of Columbus has a rich history that predates Columbus becoming the capital. Many of our students are unaware of the important nature of the history of their community. They have much to be proud of and yet our area does not often receive the recognition that it should. I want my students to begin to see the value of their community and recognize their important role in it.
Much like the area, teens and preteens can often be underestimated.
No one should ever underestimate my students. They are powerful. They have a voice. They are the change we need in this world.
In addition to performing in our music program, my students are also active in other areas of school and our community. Our group, "We Are the Change" works to support our school and community through area cleanups, weekend food distribution, and amplifying student voice.
My Project
We have requested this virtual and augmented learning set to help our students experience the world outside of their neighborhood. With this set, we can take students that have not traveled outside of our city, to virtual trips to explore the coral reef. Students in our industrial arts class can watch the Stature of Liberty be constructed. Our science students can use AR functions to examine the parts of a cell. Art students can travel to Paris to see famous works of art. The possibilities are truly endless.
Our school district is functioning in a remote learning mode for the first quarter, hopefully, followed by a hybrid plan when it is safe to do so.
We will use the google expedition kits while in the building and the merge cubes can be used at home. The merge cubes can serve as an entry point to virtual and augmented reality for our students. The selfie sticks can be used with the expeditions kits. The storage container is for the merge cubes to be stored at school once our students return.
Our students are set to make a real difference in the world. This kit, will help us ignite a passion for learning and exploration that will continue for the rest of their lives.
