My students come to school from the immediate neighborhood.
They come from low-income families with most of them having only one parent struggling to hold the family together or from families that don't speak English.
They suffer from low academics and many suffer from ADHD and other learning disabilities, including Autism. They come to learn, but some days it is a struggle to keep them on task. I have to make sure that we are always on the move and we have a lot of hands-on activities and movements planned for the day.
The ink that I am requesting will allow my students to continue to see the world in color. My students do reading and math centers daily, and the colored ink will allow me to print out various center ideas in color. The paper will allow it to be thicker and then I can laminate the center work.
Every day in my classroom, we do many projects and activities that make a bigger impact in color.
I know that seeing a picture in color has a better impact than a black and white picture, especially with my students that have limited background knowledge and might be seeing pictures of objects for the first time in print.
Currently, I have a folder on my computer of resources that need to be printed in color. My goal is to make a box of new centers for each month with colored activities based on the students' needs and current lessons. I feel that switching the activities monthly would keep the students interested in the daily centers that we do for math and reading.
