Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a speech therapist working in a special needs public school serving middle school students. Our students have special needs, ranging from diagnoses of autism, intellectual disabilities, and severe emotional needs that make learning in a typical classroom setting difficult. Three-quarters of our student population comes from low-income households and most qualify for free school lunch. Our student population is very mixed, and within a diagnosis so are their abilities and needs. Our school provides them with smaller special education classes and extra support through therapy, counseling, and individualized attention so that they can reach their highest potential.

Our students are such great motivated learners.

They work so hard and love to learn. Our students learn in different ways and benefit from interacting with learning materials. Therefore, we need adapted books and adapted learning materials. We need to adapt books so that our students can engage with the books and participate in their learning.

The materials and supplies that I am requesting are to help me print personalized materials for my students, as well as to then organize student work and materials for each student, and to use at a later date. I have many binders that with these tabs and dividers, I can better organize their student work. The computer raiser is to lift my computer, since right now it sits low on my desk, making my neck hurt at the end of a workday. Also, when I have to do a zoom meeting, I am in the bottom of the screen and the screen is not very centered.

The donations to this project will help me create new materials, organize them better, and also be able to more comfortably prepare my lessons, do my teacher planning, and create my session notes.
