3-2-1-ACTION! We say this all the time in our classroom to prepare for reader's theater, sharing, and class lessons. My students would love to add directing movies to their repertoire! Using an iPad will allow my little directors to create mini movies to share their thinking.
I have 23 first grade students in my Title I classroom.
The students are from Mexico, Iraq, Ukraine, Pakistan, India, and United States. We have Autistic children, English Language Learners, low income students, and highly capable students in our class. All are learners and want to succeed in first grade!
My Project
My digital natives are eager to use iPads to create mini movies to create a weather report, show sign language of vocabulary words, or critique famous art work by Degas, Da Vinci, or Van Gogh. We studied famous American heroes and hosted a living museum. How cool it would have been to interview the "famous hero" and create a mini documentary! While waiting for our caterpillar to change into a butterfly, we could have documented the stages of its life and recreated the metamorphosis of the butterfly. In the beginning of the next school year, I would introduce making movies by allowing the students to work collaboratively to direct and star in a movie showing our classroom expectations. Using a mini iPad has made it very easy for young students to create mini movies for their classmates.
Creating mini movies allows children to work collaboratively, creatively, and effectively.
The thought process in creating a short video involves planning, comprehending, speaking, listening, and getting along with team members. I am so excited to teach these students how to share their thinking whether it is retelling a story, explaining a math game, acting in a reader's theater, and hosting a living museum!
