My Students

My students deserve the world! We come from a town in which they have to deal with a grown up world far too early. They are a strong, hardworking crew that wish, hope, and dream about a better future no matter the challenges that face them. My school is a Title 1 school in a low SES area of one of the poorest states in the country. While I am grateful for every little bit my school and county provides me, I want to provide even more! Indoor recess is one of those areas. Typically, students can draw, take brain breaks/dance, or make use of my limited amount of board games. While these are nice, the lack of choice can become stale during stretches of bad weather or winter months.

I admire my students and want them to have a fun and purposeful recess!

My Project

What a better time to incorporate science, technology, engineering, and math than indoor recess? My project incorporates two technology based STEAM resources with quality board games that equate to more than just drawing or playing my exhausted selection of board games.

When the weather takes a bad turn, my students deserve better!

The Nintendo Labo is an inventive way that combines cardboard with a student's imagination! Utilizing the Nintendo Switch Console, The Labo Variety Kit will have students exploring inventive projects that range from robotics, music, and racing.

Likewise, Minecraft and my selected board games will incorporate STEAM, strategy, wordplay, and even mindfulness as my students put their free time to productive use instead of more typical or less purposeful indoor alternatives.
