This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a hardworking and curious bunch! I work with Freshmen and Juniors and they are in great need of a more diverse classroom library.

The key to building great readers and thinkers is to do a lot of purposeful reading and writing and discussing.

I hope to use this money to offer more books in my classroom library that give them a vast array of contemporary Young Adult literature so they can ultimately find something that resonates with them, and hopefully unlock an interest or passion of theirs.

My Project

The materials I get from this project will primarily be books. I need as many books as I can that cover a variety of current and engaging topics that directly affect teenagers (and more specifically, topics that resonate with them on a personal level).

We will hold group collegial discussions and conduct various research projects based on their novels of choice.

Using their novels as a start, they will explore in-depth a central idea, theme, or contemporary issue that is pervasive throughout the text, and from there they will grapple with those issues by creating a project that connects it to their personal experiences, local communities, or national audience.
