My students need books and magnet letters to learn to read and write. The students need bags and cushions for flexible seating for those who need to move around.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This is our first year as an ICT kindergarten teacher team in a Title I public school in NYC. The schools philosophy is that children learn best when instruction is thoroughly and purposefully planned; individually differentiated; and filled with engagement, joy, and empowerment.
Our classroom includes about 22 students whom are students with special needs and English Language Learners.
Our students come from a variety of education backgrounds, some coming from pre-kindergarten in our school and others it is their first year in school. To ensure student learning, there is small groups instruction throughout the day. Students are engaged in lessons with teachers, technology, reading text, writing, sharing and collaborating.
Kindergarten is the foundations of learning for their future. Every day the students come in with more energy and curiosity about the world around them. As teachers it is our goal to provide the a supportive learning environment so they can achieve their fullest potential.
My Project
Each item will make a difference to all the students and individual students in the classroom. The hand held white boards will increase their engagement and excitement in lessons. The white board with magnet letters can be used for small group instruction and independent word. With given words, students can focus on sentence structure without thinking of the correct vocabulary to use (this is especially useful for English Language Learners). The bean bags provide seat options for some students who better moving around. Students can use this during a break or to calm them down. The leveled readers will allow struggling students to feel successful and engaged in learning.
