Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school empowers 538 students in grades pre-k through 5 to follow their dreams. One hundred percent of students fall below the poverty line and are provided with free breakfast and lunch. Many of the students at our school strive to be the first college graduates in their families. However, many students are English language learners and thus struggle with reading. Many students come to school and talk about hearing gunshots last night, their parent being incarcerated, or their cousin getting killed in a drug-related incident.
My Project
When my students and I enter our school again we will be required to follow specific safety guidelines. We will be wearing masks and staying apart from one another.
Typically, we have community supplies in our classroom.
This means that students share everything from pencils to dry erase boards. Although this teaches a lifelong skill, it will no longer be safe due to COVID19. I am asking for pencil boxes and scissors. Each student would be assigned their own supplies and keep everything organized in their pencil box. Their pencil box would be placed in their bin, which would hold all of the supplies that they would use throughout the day.
Thank you for helping me keep my students healthy.
