Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I will be teaching dual language Kindergarten. My students are a mixture of native English speaking students and native Spanish speaking students. The majority of students in our school are of Hispanic heritage.
Many of my students come from households with limited resources at home such as technology and books.
This is why I allow students to borrow items from my classroom whenever needed. These students are learning to be proficient in two languages, which will be very beneficial for them in the future, but it can be challenging to meet the needs of all my students.
My Project
While trying to prepare a return to school during a pandemic, I know that students will need individual resources that will not be shared. As of right now, we are going to be starting with a hybrid model. I am requesting individual binders and mesh zippers pockets that will allow students to take educational resources home in an organized way along with being durable to survive going back and forth from home to school.
Play-doh is a versatile resource that can be used in many center activities while also providing students the ability to strengthen their muscles for the fine motor skills needed for Kindergarten.
I have also requested some items to help allow me to build center activities. The popsicle sticks and magnetic strip can be used for students to build words with magnetic letters. It also can be used in math centers by using magnetic paper clips for students to count. The flyswatters are to be used in centers and whole-group activities which gets students to stand up and moving while learning.
