Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a digital teacher-librarian at a junior/senior high school. Our students come from a loving and vibrant community that believes all kids can succeed.

Our students are thinkers, learning how to ask questions and challenge the status quo.

While it can be scary to question, it is the key to students learning to be critical thinkers. I hope students will understand the value of their voices in our community and world.

While this school year will be challenging, it will also be full of joy. I am grateful for the opportunity to nurture my students' voices and see how they change the world!

My Project

Starting in January, I will be teaching a class for our gifted and talented students. As an experienced teacher who is Gifted and Talented endorsed through the state, I am excited to offer this opportunity to our students.

Our students are eager to dive deep into topics they are passionate about and are culturally relevant.

These students will end the semester with a passion project, but before that, we are going to learn about the land in our community and how it has deep ties to environmentalism.

With a text set of "Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants" we will be able to learn about restorative reciprocity and how we can become stewards of our land. Then, students will extend their learning by researching an aspect of another culture and sharing how it positively impacts society and the world.
