Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Sphero Indi cars can help my students learn a wide range of skills across several disciplines. Here are the key areas of learning:

With Indi robot cars students learn computational thinking and problem solving, early coding concepts, STEM and engineering principles, collaboration and communication, as well as SEL and independence!

1. Computational Thinking and Problem Solving

Students use color-coded tiles to create paths that tell the car what to do (such as stop, turn, or speed up). This teaches foundational programming logic without needing screens or complex coding. Students learn to sequence instructions, debug mistakes, and think logically through trial and error.

2. Early Coding Concepts

Sphero indi introduces kids to basic programming through tactile, hands-on play. As they build more complex tracks and add conditional rules, they start to understand how inputs and commands work together—just like in coding.

3. STEM and Engineering Principles

Students engage in engineering design thinking as they plan, build, test, and redesign tracks. They consider speed, angles, direction, and cause and effect. This develops an understanding of physics and motion in a fun and approachable way.

4. Collaboration and Communication

Because the cars are great for small groups, students learn to collaborate—sharing ideas, troubleshooting problems, and working toward a common goal. These are essential soft skills for any future STEM career.

5. Creative and Critical Thinking

indi challenges students to think creatively as they design courses and come up with new challenges or stories around the cars. They also need to think critically when their course doesn't work as expected and they must problem-solve and adapt.

6. SEL and Independence

indi promotes independent exploration. Students can work at their own pace, build confidence through success and iteration, and learn how to manage frustration when their ideas don’t work the first time.
