Independent Living Skills Equipment

My Students

My classroom is full of curious, intriguing, hilarious, kind, and amazing young adults that are beginning to learn about their community and life after high school! My students are age 18-22 and are learning how to fully access the world that surrounds them. We spend the majority of our day in the community, utilizing public transit, navigating stores, making transactions, and so much more! All of my students are dedicated and hard working and love learning about their community. We go out, rain or shine, and can walk anywhere between 1-5 miles a day. My students are so deserving of everything I can provide them and so much more! In order to give them the best education and allow them to take full advantage of their program and community, we need some supplies that we do not yet have. My students, my staff, and I are so thankful for anything you can give!

My Project

In this project I have included items that will help my students in a variety of different settings. The hot plates will allow my students to more effectively access our cooking curriculum. We cook every week/every two weeks in order to foster independence in my students. These hot plates will allow each of my students to fully participate in the cooking lesson and make the recipe in its entirety versus taking turns like they currently have to do. These hot plates will allow for each student to cook a meal while following a staff model.

The backpacks will allow my students to better access their community.

Every student in my class uses an outing backpack every day to carry the supplies they will need on our community outings. Many of the backpacks we currently have are ripping and too small to adequately hold all of the materials my students need every day. These backpacks will provide replacements and make it easier for each of my students to carry all of their materials in the community.

The lamination sheets will help my staff and myself prepare materials for my students. My students use a lot of checklists, worksheets, etc. and being able to laminate them makes them reusable for the students. Lamination sheets are a teachers gold and these would not go to waste!
