Independent Learning in Music

My Students

The performing arts at our school are a place where students can create, persevere, and thrive. We work together to make our music and theater, and we build on our skills every day.

The students involved in our performing arts program are driven to succeed and rise to every challenge presented to them.

Of the 620 students at our school, 95 are instrumental music students, 30 are in the vocal music program and another 70 in the drama program. My students have the desire to be better and succeed.

My Project

Music classes are all about performance. However, when you are the performer, you rarely get to hear your own performance. Often, your performance is improved when you are able to hear yourself through a quality recording.

When students are able to hear their own performance, opportunities arise for self reflection and assessment that is student driven instead of teacher driven.

The students in the LCMS music department love to make music. They are constantly playing their instruments and singing, and trying to get better and better. They enjoy learning and playing together as a class. On days that we are able to record ourselves, students give thoughtful, positive critiques on how to make their music more effective, which helps us to become stronger, more independent musicians.
