This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students must audition to attend our performing and fine art school, which is comprised majority of low income families. The students have a huge gap to bridge when it comes to their math ability level and any materials will greatly help my students with their ability level.
My students try their best, yet still have a hard time retaining information in math or just understanding the concepts being taught.
This is why my students assist to create projects to help them learn math concepts, stay organized and be excited and more comfortable with understanding math.
My Project
My students made a project including lap desks and chairs for seating to complete independent work in a designated quiet space in the classroom. The lap desks will be used to complete independent work if students want to sit on the floor to complete their work, whether they want to work alone or have finished their group work and want to work on extra credit/independent work. The chairs will be used by students who also want to sit in the quiet area to complete work alone or have finished their group work and want to work on extra credit/independent work.
These materials will make a difference in my students' learning because it will allow students who need a quiet area to complete work to have that space to do that in.
Some students need quiet to do work and other students finish work before others and have the opportunity to complete independent extra credit work to ensure mastery of the skills taught.
