This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach students with autism in an urban public middle school! My students are amazing and hard working. They have unique personalities and show up smiling everyday. They range from fully verbal learning a modified curriculum to non-verbal learning basic skills.

My students truly deserve the best education and that's what I'm trying to provide them!

When you walk into my room you'll see a mixture of small group, one-to-one, and independent work activities happening all at the same time.

My Project

This cubby unit will allow me to store independent work tasks in an organized way, that will ultimately help increase my students independence. My students will be able to look at their visual "task list", go match the number, pull the bin out, and start working. No more will they need to wait for teachers to set up materials or help them sort through and lift bins.

The ability to work independently and control ones environment is something students with autism don't often get to experience.
