The students writing this proposal represent our "Pingpong Club" which organically began three years ago. This club is a victim of its own success as we are now up to five tables, two thanks to donorschoose last year. But as we expand the number of tables, the number of kids showing up to play increases even faster.
Today we are asking for three additional tables and paddles. We have both the storage and the play area to accommodate more kids.
Students learn life-skills (sharing, sportsmanship, collaboration) and are given a safe place to be after school. Students play from 2pm to 5pm three days a week. The number of interested students is swelling past capacity. They are also developing their skills directly connect to the sport of table tennis as well. Some of the kids have become quite passionate about this sport. That enthusiasm is part of the reason for the club's success
In Their Own Words
Students right now are joining the club and have little to no time to play even one full game of table tennis. People are leaving the club early because the wait time for each table is way too long. Many people come to table tennis to release the amount of stress they have after a long day of school by enjoying a good game of table tennis. However, many leave disappointed because they hardly had anytime to enjoy a game of table tennis. Most students spend their time watching a game of table tennis rather than playing a game which is quite sad. We urgently need more tables in order to support the amount of people interested in table tennis. We know that if we are able to obtain three more tables for the club then it would help expand the club. However, we as a club lack the supplies needed to support the amount of people interested.
We are all leaders because we put the tables together and manage. All of us believe that we should demonstrate to the society that table tennis is a sport and should be treated like one especially within our school. We want to be ambassadors for this sport within our school.
This project is important because at the moment we have over 30 members in the club and have over 60 other students interested in joining. We only have three tables and limited paddles which is not close to enough tables to even support the current members in the club now.
