Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This school year, I am teaching 30 bright, curious, and confident 4th graders. Their backgrounds are all very different, which brings a challenging but rewarding experience to the classroom. My 4th graders all have different academic and social abilities. They are resilient, strong, and caring. My students also work very hard and are learning to be accepting of inclusive towards all of their classmates.
My students are are on a mission to be inclusive to all !
Due to the academic and social challenges that the global pandemic brought to my students' lives, they require a lot of support and valuable lessons in inclusivity. I hope to provide students lessons about how to be antiracist and inclusive through a new set of inclusive books that are representative of each of them. I would also like to provide them with art supplies that include all skin tones. These art lessons/supplies would supplement the books.
My Project
My students will use these materials and books to learn about being inclusive to students in their classroom and people in their communities. They will learn valuable lessons in acceptance and how to be antiracist while having art supplies that represent their skin color.
My goal is for students to build empathy towards the experiences of people and children of color from various backgrounds, while being represented through our classroom art supplies.
They will enjoy learning and listening to these stories and also use their creativity to show what they learned.
