Help me give my students comfort and inclusion during unstructured times of the school day with the sensory tools necessary for noise and anxiety reduction.
My students are excited and ready to learn every day! They all learn differently, and they each teach me something new every time we work together. My students also like to move and be active throughout their day. The students that I work with have sensory opportunities embedded into their day in the form of breaks and hands-on multi-sensory academics tasks. Being able to provide as many sensory opportunities as possible is important to their success in and out of the general education environment.
My Project
My students are included in the general education environment all day. With this achievement comes difficult times as well. The unstructured times such as lunch....assemblies....and unexpected practice drills are very challenging for my students. Not only are these moments unexpected, but often unplanned, which is particularly difficult for students who thrive on routine. The noise cancelling headphones will make all of these unexpected times in school much less stressful, by reducing the noise that can come during them. The weighted lap pads wil keep anxiety at bay during those unstructured moments where my students have to sit and wait during practice drills in school.
