Inclusion Is for Every Child

My students need a variety of fine motor and sensory items such as a light table and balls and ramps to engage then in meaningful learning experiences.

My Students

My students are part of a pod of 4 Headstart inclusion classes. We work hard to provide ALL students with lots of opportunities to learn and succeed at their own developmental levels. We are a Title One/low economic School with 100% free breakfast and lunch. Our students face a variety of challenges. One third of our students are special needs and others come from poverty, have parents that are incarcerated, are in foster care, or are facing other life challenges. With the diversity of needs in my classroom, I use variety of hands on, developmentally appropriate materials to engage and interest them. Novelty stimulates their brains and builds neural pathways for learning!!

My Project

All young children learn best through play and through connections with their teachers and each other. This is even more true for special needs students. My students thrive when they are given lots of experiences with hands on and sensory items.

The light table is an example of a wonderful tool to engage them.

Students are drawn to the table and this one even changes colors! As they are experimenting with different items on top of the table, we engage them with language and questions about that they see, hear, feel and are thinking.

The balls and ramps will bring block play to another level as students learn about force and motion, incline and other scientific and mathematical principals. The materials in this project will provide my students with meaningful play experiences that show them learning is FUN!!
