Inch by Inch: Plant Life Cyces!

Help me give my students materials for learning about plant life cycles by planting seeds at home and measuring the growth!

My Students

Our First Graders are learning from home. We send home "packets" with practice work and have created a First Grade web page that houses many links to support our students and families across the curriculum. We post "learning challenges" each day with links to videos, read a louds, songs, and movement activities each day around a given learning standard. Our local Parent Group gave each grade money to get basic supplies including scissors, pencils, crayons, markers, glue sticks, etc to send home to make learning more equitable and accessible to all. Our school district is doing a phenomenal job of providing meals/food to our students.

There are a few additional things I need to support my students from afar!

My Project

Our First Grade students need to learn about plant life cycles for science, and measurement for math. What better way to learn both at home than by planting, observing and measuring real seeds and the sunflower life cycle!

These materials will provide background knowledge, resources and materials to observe plant life cycles at home in a meaningful way.

We will be providing supporting materials across the curriculum.

Planting seeds, observing the germination process, practicing measurement skills and writing/recording observations in science journals is fun, and hands on experiences in both math and science.
