Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live in a low-income area where drugs, gangs, and violence are a reality. The majority of my students live below the poverty line and receive free meals at school. Most of my students are struggling readers, but they work hard to improve their levels. About twenty-five percent of my class are English Language Learners.
My students are learning that reading can take them on great adventures.
Literacy is a very important part of my students' school day. They are learning to love reading and the adventures they find. Whether through a piece of literature or an informational text about history or science. They eagerly check out school library books that correlate to the classroom instruction.
My Project
My students need new incentives such as pens, pencils, and erasers for their reading goals. They have been reading up a storm and have almost depleted my rewards and we still have 13 weeks left of school.

My students have a quarterly reading goal. They need to achieve a certain number of points by taking Accelerated Reader tests. Along with their points goal, they also have a comprehension goal. I chose pencils, erasers, slime, and sharpeners to encourage my students to read more because they will want these prizes.
Many of my students have exceeded their goals this year.
My students know if they double their goal they will get to pick a book of their choice. I have had 5 students at least double their goal so far. Your donation will allow me to add new and exciting incentives to encourage my students to continue to read.
