My Students

My second-grade scholars come from different socioeconomic backgrounds. They range between the ages of 7 and 8 years old and receive their education in an urban environment with a population of 43.4% Black, Non-Hispanic, 26.5% Hispanic, 24.4% White, Non-Hispanic, and 4.6% Multiracial. My school participates in the Federal Free School Lunch program, where 100% of our scholars receive a nutritional meal every day. They come to school despite what they are going through and work hard to accomplish set goals.

We are also one of few STEM schools in the school district that provides all of our scholars with an equal opportunity for innovation, engineering and design principles, and stewardship within the context of cross-curricular, authentic problem-based learning units.

My Project

This year has been a long yet fulfilling year for many of my scholars and it's not over yet. There were some lows however, many successes in our classroom so far. Many of my scholars that struggled learning has made some type of growth and are more comfortable contributing to their learning process. Our school has a school wide incentive plan but unfortunately, students don't always get their items in a timely fashion.

These chips, candy bars, and other delectables will be incentives that will be used to jumpstart my own PBIS store in the classroom for my students.

They will be able to purchase these items using points that they have earned throughout the day and/or week given by myself and other staff. This will help motivate them to continuously reach and obtain particular goals.
