My Project
I am working with a group of students from families who immigrated to the United States to prepare them to apply to college, all first-generation college students in US Universities. Their parents speak limited English, so my ELL students are leading the way with their applications and the college admission process, with minimal help from home.
My students and I are working on college applications and personal statements, ACT and SAT scores, and scholarships specifically for low-income students and minorities, like QuestBridge and Posse; each of my students has set a goal for himself/herself of an attainable yet optimistic score on the ACT or SAT.
They are working so hard to reach these goals. I want to reward them with a small gift card to Amazon that will be presented as they achieve these test goals or get accepted into college. Although the intrinsic reward for reaching this goal will be life-changing, I want them to know that I saw their hard work and I know the odds that they were up against - and these small gift cards with a hand-written message from me will do just that!
